Vertisol (expansive clay with deep cracks)
Janko has been in existence since 2006. It is located in the most famous Serbian vineyard area, Smederevo. This is a city of history, and contains the famous grape wine “Smederevka”, located on the southern part of the Pannonian Plain and the northern part of Šumadijan hills. This area is bordered on one side of the river Danube, on the other Velika Morava, making it the relief, as the climate and soil is ideal for growing grapes.
Cellar capacity is 60,000 liters. There is a new cellar under construction, with a capacity of 150,000 liters. In Smederevo grapes are grown since the arrival of the Romans in the Balkan, and the tradition has continued until present day. There is a variety of grape called Smederevka, after which the town was named, and whose homeland is just the location of the suburban zone.
Janko owns 11 hectares of vineyards with yield of 6-7 tons per hectare, or 1.2kg to 1.5kg per vine tree. Such a small yield is proof of quality wine.
Janko made history of Serbian wine growing by winning for the first time two silver medals for red wines at the most prestigious wine competition in the world, ”Decanter World Wine awards 2013”. Medals were won for “Crveni Zapis” of 2008 and “Zavet Reserve” of 2008.
