DESCRIPTION

Château le Castellas is a 200 year old family winery located 17 miles from Cahors. They harvest 30 hectares of vineyards on a rocky plateau of clay and limestone. The Roucanniers family is commited to natural farming without the use of pesticides or chemicals, the same way their family has done last 200 years. This wine comes from 25 year old vineyards. The grapes are hand harvested, and wine is aged 30% in barrel and 70% in concrete. A benchmark Cahors which is supple and fruity with fine tannins.

80% Malbec, 20% Merlot

This traditional Cahors is a rustic treasure. The nose is redolent of plums, herbs, lavender and stone. It is a rich blue-purple hue, with some iridescence. On the palate, a firm grip of fruit is wrapped within chunky tannin, with plenty of acid to keep it refreshing. The Merlot serves to round out the mouthfeel, and finishes clean but strong. Food pairings include grilled and roasted meats; beef, game, lamb etc. Hard or blue-veined cheeses with berries also a fine option. Extraordinary value. Drink within two years.
